Desert Morocco

The Desert Morocco, When we talk about Desert, we have in mind images of huge sand dunes, as far as the eye can see, mirages, perhaps, and “nothing”. These large colored dunes are found little in Morocco. There are only two ergs, the famous Erg Chebbi, next to Merzouga, and Erg Chigaga, further south, near M’hamid. If Chebbi is the highest and most extended, Chigaga is more isolated, since it takes about 45 minutes of 4×4 to reach it, while Merzouga is really “at the edge of the road”.

Going to the dunes is a dream come true. Whether sporty and hiker, or a little less sporty (but still) and let yourself be carried by the amble of his dromedary, it feels like “in a picture”. By rolling in the sand to hit the dunes, we replay movies and comics, letting ourselves go to the pleasure of a fast and safe descent.

3 days from marrakech to desert

We prefer these deserts to sand dunes, their landscapes are more varied, always bitter, arid, often dark, like the almost black peaks of Djebel Saghro, or our oasis, just next to Serdrar, where fossils set in shale and black marbles outcropping, so numerous that one has the impression of walking on a presentation in a museum of natural history.

Go to meet the Desert Morocco

To discover the Desert Morocco, you have to take your time. It takes more than a few hours’ trip for the body to begin to dry out, feel the effects of aridity and dust, so that the eye is at the sparkling brightness. You have to spend a few nights, to fully enjoy a sky filled with stars as we do not see anywhere else. And above all, it takes a few days, for the “nothing” of the desert to produce its effect. Gradually, the little details around you, a simple grass, a small insect that roars a few minutes, and you would never have noticed, takes on an unsuspected importance. This is the magical effect of the desert, to open you to the world.

Desert espace, night in desert,3 days from marrakech to desert

After a few days in the desert, when we return to the oasis, what could pass in the eyes of the tourist for a few strands of dusty grass, a muddy ditch, becomes a spring meadow, and a river.
The departure of the excursions From Marrakech, it takes 4 days to really go to the Desert Morocco, and it is a minimum. Below, we make the road to spend two or three hours in dunes.
The summer period is rather to be avoided, unless we particularly like the heat. It sounds obvious, but it’s very hot in the desert, summer. So – especially if you’re traveling with kids – take plenty of water, and plan small trips.

Morocco Camel Trekking & Night in the Desert

Morocco Camel Trekking & Night in the Desert, really is the highlight of any trip to this fascinating North African country. Not only will you experience the immensity of the Sahara, and possibly the most beautiful sunrise in history, but you will also get a taste of the local nomadic culture at the same time.

While most travelers, make their Camel trip from Merzouga to visit the Erg Chebbi Dunes, it is also possible to travel further south from M’hamid ,and spend the night at a camp in the Erg Chigaga Dunes. Whichever you choose, the excursions are very well organized, and while the camps are basic, they give you a fantastic taste of the nomadic life in the desert! Here we gather information, to help you plan your Morocco Camel Trekking & Night in the Desert.

Night in Morocco Desert

is a one-night excursion, which starts in the middle of the afternoon and ends in the middle of the next morning. Your personal camel guide will meet you at the traditional Riad / Kasbah hotel in Merzouga or M’hamid, where you spent the previous night (or where you stayed the night before), and introduce you to his camel.

travel agency Marrakech Desert Morocco,3 days from marrakech to desert

After jumping aboard your “Desert ship”, you will leave for the desert camp to spend the night. Most trips will be made late in the afternoon, about 1 hour and a half before sunset, so you will not do a camel trek in the heat of the day and experience more atmospheric lighting. Camel treks are usually only a few kilometers and take about 1 1/2 hours in total. If you leave early in the day, keep in mind that the light is hard and the heat can be intense, and being on the camels for long periods can be a bit uncomfortable.

days from marrakech to desert;Camel Trekking in the Moroccan Sahara

Once you arrive at the camp, your guide will show you his traditional nomadic tent, equipped with all the bedding and plenty of blankets for the cold winter nights. The camps are comfortable but basic, and although there is potable water available for brushing and washing, it is limited in the desert, so use it wisely! Most camps will serve Moroccan mint tea upon arrival and you will have time to walk through the sand dunes while the cook (usually your camel guide) prepares dinner.

Dinner is normally a meat-based tagine, rice, fruit, and mint tea, as well as soft drinks that are available for purchase. Some nomad camps have traditional musical instruments that the staff will play (or you can play) and the evening can be as social or as quiet as you want. Do not forget to head out for some incredible stargazing (and perhaps some long exposure night shots), with no light pollution to hinder your view!

It is a good idea to sleep early, as you will wake up in the pre-dawn hours for a magical sunrise in the Sahara Desert! Your guide will wake you up with enough time to cool off, and walk along the nearest sand dune, to see the first rays of light on the horizon. After absorbing this surreal experience, you will walk (or slide) back to the camp for a traditional mint tea, before packing your belongings and ,the camel trip back to the city from which you started.

Night Desert Camp, days from marrakech to desert

Most Camel rides through Morocco and night excursions in the Desert, include a breakfast buffet at the hotel upon your return, and access to hot showers if you wish!

Give yourself time, dedicate yourself to a TWO-night stay in the Sahara desert:

If you can schedule two nights of accommodation, consider staying with one of the nomadic Berber families in the desert for one of them.

Instead of rushing the experience with just one camel trek in the afternoon, and one night in the desert, upon returning at dawn the next day, we recommend that you allow two full days. Who knows when you will return to the Sahara desert again! This gives you time to absorb the experience, chat with your local guide about your traditional lifestyle and capture some spectacular images. You may even have time to do a sand boarding!

Desert ESpace

Morocco Camel Trekking & Night in the Desert tour

Is all part of your Morocco private tour package. But if you are booking locally in Merzouga or M’hamid, request a private tour if possible. This will allow you to go at your pace, stop for photos when you want, and not have other travelers getting in your shots.

Camel Trekking in the Moroccan Sahara, Desert mrocco, days from marrakech to desert

The exclusivity of just you, and your loved ones, exploring the camel sand dunes, is preferable to a large group of tourists who click, (and leave the irtraces in the perfect pattern of the dunes!). If a private tour is not available, opt for a small group adventure.

Night in the Sahara Desert: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

When one thinks of Morocco, one immediately imagines these images of epinal camel caravans crossing the ocher dunes of the Sahara at sunset or speend Night in the Sahara Desert. It is exactly this kind of picture that we reserved this stay in Merzouga at the gates of the only Saharan erg in Morocco.

    Discovering Erg Chebbi in Merzouga:

Travel to Sahara, Days from Marrakeck to FesThe Erg Chebbi in the valley of Tafilalet on the outskirts of Merzouga is with Chigaga the only Saharan erg in Morocco covered with huge dunes 150 meters high on average. For centuries, the region of Merzouga has been a real crossroads between the civilizations of the African desert. From the terrace of our kasbah inn, we can already see the first voluptuous sand dunes stretching towards what seems to be the infinite. The desert is calling us. Mama Africa calls us. As soon as the overwhelming heat fades, we ride our camels for a camel trek of 2 hours in the desert to join our camp at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Camel trekking in Desert of Merzouga:

night Desert Camp, camel trekking, Days tours from Fes to MarrakechCamel trips in Morocco are a traditional tourist interest. Hiking has always been a popular and widely used model of Moroccan holidays, taking you on a journey to the top of beauty at some point in the magnificent landscape. Camel trips can be completed in Morocco in many unique locations, not just camel riding trips in the desert, but additionally, camel trips can be done on the beachfront in locations that include Agadir or Essaouira. Hiking in the Wild Desert offers a great opportunity to connect with nature in a unique way.

Enjoying the sunset and sunrises from the dunes in the Sahara desert:

Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful in any corner of the world, but there’s something magical about the way the warm colors of the sky paint the golden dunes of the Sahara. Just like stargazing, it’s the deafening silence as the day begins or ends that sets the perfect atmosphere to enjoy the kaleidoscope of color that takes over the Sahara Desert.

Night in the Sahara Deser Camp:

days from marrakech to desert,Night Desert Camp, Visit M’Hamid El Ghizlane, 3 Days Tours from Fes to Marrakech

Night in the Sahara Deser Back at camp, a tajine with mint tea welcomes us. Our guests then leave “Guembri” (kind of three-stringed guitar), “djembe” (drum) and “rattlesnakes” (sort of castanets) for a small concert of music and traditional songs, the opportunity to try these Funny instruments and share some crazy laughs. Before going to bed, we go back to our dune in the dark to admire the sky riddled with stars and shooting stars. Never has the Milky Way been so brilliant, far from the visual pollution of the big cities. Stretched out on the sand in this silence and this absolute darkness, I think of this immense desert which surrounds us and all that it conceals of unknown, with what it was formerly, an ocean or perhaps a savannah where still lived prehistoric species. More than a simple absence of noise, the silence that reigns sharpens all our senses and our perceptions and plunges us deeply into the present moment. Eyes open or closed, one would almost feel like touching the sky.

    Scenes from Morocco Desert

The expanse of the Morocco Desert desolate tract which stretches throughout Morocco is divided into two principal regions; the erg (dunes) chebbi and the erg Erg Chigaga dunes. each provide the spectacle of rolling, velvet sand dunes for as some distance as the eye can see, with the mountains of algeria as a backdrop when looking east. whether or not you make a decision to visit the chigaga or the chebbi dunes, you will experience stunning camel treks, serene sunsets treks and stunning big name lit nights, but each place had it’s very own unique appeal.

    The erg chebbi area

Is extra effortlessly accessed, with well constructed roads taking you proper up to the face of the dunes. it sees expanded tourism as a result. a quick walk from the historical trans-saharan caravan-route town of merzouga, and also you’ll find your self definitely immersed by way of the chebbi dunes. the chebbi region has the tallest dunes in morocco, that is another cause why it’s the most famous preference, and its perspectives of mountains in algeria are pretty dramatic.

    The Erg Chigaga dunes

Can only be accessed by a camel trek or a 4WD vehicle, making it less visited, more remote, and wild – as nature intended. Even though its dunes aren’t as tall as chebbi’s, it’s expanse of rolling dunes into the space and the wild shrubbery on the fringes give it a more rustic, wasteland safari sense. Here you will see nomads casually going about the day and may even get to see a nomadic school camp, a travelling school for nomadic children, depending on if one is in the region.
